V8's Back in action...

The V8 Supercar series kicked off in the Abu Dhabi over the weekend with a fantastic second race which culminated in defending champion James Courtney taking the chequered flag ahead of Jason Bright in the Team BOC Holden. The disappointment on the face of team principal Brad Jones was there for all to see following Bright's second place as he was fighting to record their first ever V8 win. It would have been fantastic to see him cross the line first but Courtney carried too much speed. Bright later admitted that his tyres were going off , which the tv viewing audience would have noticed as he slid around corners trying to hold off Courtney.

Courtney pressed hard in the final laps with the lead swapping a couple of times in the process. It made for great viewing and is the best possible start for the year. Having walked away from the Dick Johnson Ford team after claiming the title at the final race of last season, Courtney will be thrilled to stake his claim so early on in the piece. His team mate, Garth Tander was not so lucky after being hit by a spinning Tim Slade as the field bunched for the first corner. Carnage ensued after Tony D'Alberto ran out of control and caused the mess.

Team Vodafone scored the first race win with Jamie Whindcup finishing comfortably on the top step of the podium. Teammate Craig Lowndes suffered damage from contact with Russell Ingall and thereafter struggled to do anything noteworthy.

All in all the series got away to a flying start. I can't wait to see them home and settling into what has proven, year in year out, to be a great series.

Think Long and Prosper
